I use location, composition and light to create portraits that feel visually engaging—sometimes graphic or moody, sometimes clean and minimal, sometimes playful or offbeat. I enjoy the challenge of using lines, shadows, reflections and texture to build the frame, then placing the subject within it in a way that feels natural and well-balanced.
Sometimes there’s time to experiment and try different approaches. Other times, you’ve only got a few minutes and need to work fast and instinctively. Either way, it’s about responding to the environment, the person, and the brief — whether that means adapting to layout specs or shaping a creative direction on the fly.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, including local and regional publications, corporate teams, arts organisations and individuals—often musicians, writers, performers and small business owners. My portraits have been published in national newspapers and magazines, and increasingly I’m focused on editorial commissions — profile pieces, features, portraits for supplements and specialist press.
As well as the technical side, I bring a sensitivity to people. A lot of my subjects don’t love being photographed, so I place real importance on making the experience collaborative and easy — because when someone feels comfortable, the images resonate more strongly.
